About
James Farrer (刘雅格 in Chinese) is Professor of Sociology and Global Studies at Sophia University (上智大学) in Tokyo. He conducts research on East Asian urban culture, gender and sexuality in China and Japan,and expatriate community formation in East Asian cites. His current fieldwork project focuses on the globalization of Asian foodways, looking both at the transnational influences on East Asia as well as the spread of Japanese cuisine globally. He holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in cognitive science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
